Hi,

I reached my contacts at Adobe regarding the possibility to use some of the
structure that has been implemented by Adobe for community translation. They
are considering the possibility to deploy those tools in a more open manner,
probably as a hosted service, as currently they are used solely to translate
Adobe products. According to the people that are leading that project it
would make sense that both Phonegap and Flex be included in that system,
possibly as the first coming from outside Adobe.

Yet, this is something that I don't see happening in the near future (I've
been asked to check back around July or August to see how things went), so
Janice, from Adobe's Internationalization Team was kind enough to list some
alternative she's worked with or heard of (I'm filtering out some that
didn't seem to fit the use case):

-          Pootle (I believe this had already been mentioned);

-          Crowdin (This is a paid service, but is free for OS projects);

I believe Pootle would have to be installed at the Apache infrastructure to
be used (or we could ask Pootle to host the translation project at their
main servers as they have done with other projects, not clear though how
this would be achieved). Janice also mentioned something about the need to
convert to and from PO files to be able to use Pootle.

I'm also talking with Adobe in order to bring to Apache the work that the
Portuguese community had done translating the SDK. They seem uncertain if
that had already been integrated or marked for integration in a 4.6 update,
so I'm waiting on this too.

Any thoughts on community driven translation for Flex?

Cheers,

Rui
