It would be a very large waste of that CCD size. A 10,000 element CCD could make over a 10,000 dpi/ppi scan (at least in one direction).
10,000 divided by 2.5" (nearly medium format dimension) = 4000 (dpi/ppi) The SS4000 probably uses a 4000-5000 element CCD.
