Huh? I thought one of the reasons of adding a separate pixel format is to be able to differentiate between the actually supported depths. If you do implicit depth truncation, then what is the point?

That's only nvenc, it can only encode 8 or 10 bit.
But for decoding it can actually do 12 bit.
