ffmpeg (the application) reads and writes multimedia files why should ffmpeg suddenly stop working well with monochrome ? (and require the user to per file convert to monochrome when the input already is monochrome) Also we talk about the raw video decoder here, i suspect this is used for more cases than just avi either way, as said iam happy to switch to using pal8 for monochrome avis if people want.
