I don't agree. The burden of proof that this error is useful is on the side of it's proponents. Anyway, I've used VLC with hwaccel+threading, which is the default, for both VDPAU and VA-API and didn't notice any image corruption, let alone crashes. I'm sure lots of Debian users use it that way without problems. That's enough evidence for me to claim that it actually works, unless proven otherwise.
