I think Nicolas was just initially saying that the padding added was meant to preserve ABI compatibility when it was something we cared about. Apparently, we agreed to stop this (not sure if everyone agreed but we did). So while that hack doesn't matter anymore, the point was that it was not meaningless; it was just a clarification.
