There is no dependencies for numerous pkg-config versions. For VLC (and crosscompiling to a LOT of systems), we use pkg-config-lite: SF=http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project PKGCFG_VERSION=0.28-1 PKGCFG_URL=$(SF)/pkgconfiglite/$(PKGCFG_VERSION)/pkg-config-lite-$(PKGCFG_VERSION).tar.gz It's trivial to configure, make and make install, and has 0 dependencies.
