WILD FLOWERS OF THE TRANSVAAL
Our Ref. #27996. Signed by Author on title page. Cythna Letty's 
botanical drawings are among the best available. Most of the more 
attractive species of the Transvaal flora are illustrated in 
colour - 82 families, 282 genera, & 425 species, and others as 
pencil sketches. A standard reference work. Includes newspaper 
cutting from The Star July 29 1971 featuring the Author at the 
first major gallery showing of her work. Green buckram boards. 
362pp illustrated 174 coloured plates. 4to. Neat ownership 
signature to front pastedown. a little dusty else a VG copy in 
lesser dustwrapper (spine tanned with damp marking, chipped at 
spine ends and along top edges).

Lot 169. C.G. Finch-Davies, C.G. (Intro. Dr Alan Kemp).
THE BIRD PAINTINGS OF C.G. FINCH-DAVIES
Our Ref. #27876. The Introduction by Kemp is a biography of 
Finch-Davies and is expanded beyond that originally published by 
the Transvaal Museum in 1976. There are 99 full page colour plates 
in addition to the frontis. Orange cloth boards with colour print 
set to front. 311pp illustrated large format in matching slipcase. 
Bookplate to front pastedown. 4 square corners, spine fading, 
contents unmarked in matching slipcase (sound, dusty top edge, 
handled). An excellent copy that presents well.

THE BIRDS OF PREY OF SOUTHERN AFRICA 
Our Ref. #27874. Contains a total of 140 full-page coloured plates 
with extensive text. 'The Birds of Prey of Southern Africa is the 
showcase for the wonderful paintings of birds of prey by the late 
Claude Gibney Finch-Davies. It is sixty years since this talented 
artist, of world standard, died tragically. His life and the 
circumstances surrounding his death are described in a brief 
biography contained in the book. He illustrated all the birds of 
prey, including the owls, known in Southern Africa at the 
beginning of the twentieth century - and only eight other species 
have been discovered since that time. He depicted the various 
plumages as they occur with great accuracy and detail so that this 
collection provides a fine reference source'. Gilt on brown cloth 
boards. 339pp illustrated, in original plain card slipcase. No 
inscriptions, 4 square corners. a Fine copy in matching VG+ 
protected dustwrapper (marked and tanned to spine, no chips, 
tears, or loss) and housed within a Good but worn tanned brown 
card slipcase with a break along top front edge needing minor 
repair.

of Dr Alan Kemp provide an authoritative introduction to their 
origins and variety. Chocolate cloth boards. 488pp illustrated 
full page coloured illustrations. In brown paper-covered slipcase. 
large 4to. No inscriptions, 4 square corners. Fine condition in 
protected VG dustwrapper (foxed internally also with some lesser 
external marking, spine handled, no chips, tears, or loss). lesser 
slipcase marked, handled, but sound with no corner bumps.

Our Ref. #27872. This is an undeclared Proof Copy, No.13 of 25, 
bound for the Fitzsimons Snake Park (in Durban) and 
calligraphically inscribed thus. Binding is similar to the 
Collector's Edition. With a limitation of only 25 copies this is 
an exceptional and unusual copy of this title. Three quarter green 
leather over marbled paper on boards with 5 raised bands and 
maroon title label. 488pp illustrated full page coloured 
illustrations. In matching slipcase with grey sides and matching 
marbled paper edges (top, bottom, rear). large 4to. No 
inscriptions, spine fading and gilt on title label wearing else a 
conservatively Fine copy in Fine slipcase (slight shelfwear to 
bottom only). To all appearances as new and contents absolutely 
unmarked.

plates, fold-out map at rear. 8vo. Wraps heavily insect-spotted, 
however a sound copy with clean contents. map in excellent 
condition, no tears.
