Thursday 25th June at 16.30 GMT (that being 6.30 pm local time here in
SA).

We have the following 7 lots on offer: We especially note the first

Johannesburg in April at a major premium over the amount asked here.

occasion of Fangio's visit to South Africa in 1992.

These prints were sold by the artist for AU$500. The full run of prints
were signed for the artist by Fangio at one time, there were no
unsigned copies.

Lot 405
#27606 Dave Adnams. 1937 FORD V8
Airbrushed artwork. Signed Dave Adnams ‘97.

his image graced the front cover of the July 1998 issue of Classic Car
Africa (Volume 3 No 4) and was featured prominently on the artist’s
website for many years. He certainly regarded this as his masterpiece.

Excellent provenance being purchased by the present owner from the
artist.

A stylish trendsetter, this model is regarded as a classic of the line.

British-born airbrush artist Dave Adnams arrived in South Africa as a
16-year-old in January 1948 and was immediately struck by the colourful
array of post-war exotic American cars that he saw in Cape Town:
Buicks, De Sotos, Nashes, Oldsmobiles, Packards, Pontiacs and
Studebakers. They were in sharp contrast to the drab cars he'd grown
used to in "the bleak austerity of post-war Britain", he told Madden
Cole of Classic Car Africa magazine in 1998. The experience simply
added to his fascination and passion for the motor car, especially the
American automobile. Once settled in Johannesburg, Dave began attending
motor racing events at such circuits as Grand Central, Palmietfontein,
and later Kyalami, using the racing cars he saw as models for his
illustrations. He developed his love for cars and motor racing during
his career as an illustrator for an advertising agency in Johannesburg,
later branching out to work independently as an artist from his studio
in Blairgowrie.

Lot 406
#27607 Leon Hoffman. JIM CLARKE IN LOTUS 25 CLIMAX
Oil on artists board.

The painting depicts world champion racing driver Jim Clark in the
winning Lotus 25 Climax at the South African Grand Prix at East London
in December 1963.

Excellent provenance being purchased by the present owner from the
artist.

Vereeniging-based automotive artist Leon Hoffman has had a lifelong
long affair with the motor car and motor sport in all its forms. He has
an enviable record as a cutaway artist and an illustrator of general
motoring art. He has specialised in the illustration of personal cars
for owners and major corporates on commission, anything from humble
Austins to majestic Rolls-Royces and muscular AC Cobras. Leon is a
member of several vintage and classic car clubs in Johannesburg and is
a dyed-in-the-wool follower of motor sport and motor racing history,
often to be found studying competition cars at his home circuit Midvaal
as well as at Kyalami and Zwartkops. Among the interesting cars he has
owned is a rare 1936 Marendaz Special. His work appeared from time to
time in Classic Car Africa and Fine Cars magazines.

Lot 407
#27605 F.E. Wookey. SIEGE OF KIMBERLEY
Diary of F.E. Wookey, The Hospital, Kimberley.

Author's diary. The diary of a young nurse, F.E. Wookey, (related to
the missionary Rev. A.J. Wookey of the London Missionary Society) from
13th October 1899 to 16th February 1900. This details her experiences
in the hospital attending to the casualties, and highlights the
townspeople’s frustration over the delay of Lord Methuen’s relief
force. The dire shortage of food, the arrival of the Boer’s big gun,
civilian gossip and rumours are all covered in this interesting
narrative.

Lot 417
#26291 F.E.G. Nilant. DIE HOUT- EN LINOSNEE VAN J.H. PIERNEEF
A.A. Balkema, Cape Town, 1974

Standard work on Pierneef. "Pierneef painted Africa. His landscapes
were different from anything seen in paint before. Baines, Oerder and
others had painted the same scenes, but Pierneef saw them with new
eyes. He created an original style out of this new subject matter".
(Dr. Anton Hendriks).

Lot 418
#25964 Barbara Lindop (Ed. Mona de Beer). GERARD SEKOTO
Dictum, Randburg, 1988

An extensive collection of his work from around 1938 to the 1980s.
Gerard Sekoto (1913-1993) lived in exile in France for more than 40
years and contributed a 21pp autobiographical outline to this book.
Definitive resource to artist's oeuvre.

(NOT the later slim 64pp publication by Pavilion of the same name and
with the same cover picture).

Any additional information, images, assistance, as required in
connection with the above items and the bidding process can be
provided on request - including p&p estimates for overseas clients.

IMPORTANT: The items are on the auction and no pre-auction offers will
be considered. Items will, if unsold, revert to our previous listed
price and no post-auction offers will be considered. If you wish to
purchase an item at auction-level prices, please bid for it.

The auction allows 'proxy bids' whereby it judiciously spends up to
your maximum bid to stay just ahead of the other bidders - only as long
as they do not have a proxy bid in excess of yours. If you are the only
bidder then it will not exceed the reserve price until another bidder
enters a higher bid. Speak to us if you are unsure on how to use this
feature.

NO 'Buyers Premium' charged on this auction, which means that the
purchaser is paying the hammer price clear of the surcharge levied
by many other auction houses. Buyers Premium adversely affects
the prices bid to the detriment of the seller.

Bidding closes: Thursday 25th November 2020 16.30 GMT (6.30 pm local SA
time)
