I am getting a little desperate for some help with a Samba printing
issue. I have configured a number of systems for this without
difficulty, but this one seems to have a mind of its own!
Here is the relevant part of smb.conf:
[global]
smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd
printing = cups
dns proxy = no
security = share
encrypt passwords = yes
null passwords = yes
workgroup = WORKGROUP
server string = Samba Server
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192
log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m
load printers = yes
wins support = true
printcap name = lpstat
max log size = 50
hosts allow = 192.168.0. 127.
[printers]
path = /var/spool/samba
writable = yes
comment = All Printers
printable = yes
guest account = root
public = yes
guest only = yes
I can see the printer from W$ XP, but access is denied. I see nmb
errors in the log like:
nmbd/nmbd_incomingrequests.c:process_name_refresh_request(181)
Error - should be sent to WINS server
process_name_refresh_request: unicast name registration request received
for name WORKGROUP<00> from IP 192.168.0.2 on subnet UNICAST_SUBNET.
This suggested to me that I should tell samba to be a WINS server, but
this hasn't been required on other installations. Maybe these messages
are unrelated, but I guess they should be addressed.
Any guidance greatly appreciated!
TIA
Brian
