Hi all,

I am sure there is a simple solution to my problem, I am new to networking and
have read the docs but still can't get it working.

I have a dsl-504 router and 2 machines running Mandrake 8.2, both machines are
connected to the router which has 192.168.0.1 as the Internet. I can use the
Internet from both machines and can ping each from the other. I have set
them up with static addresses of PC1 192.168.0.2 and PC2 192.168.0.3. Each
has its host set as PC1.HOMENET and PC2.HOMENET but when I try and connect
using LAN Browser in KDE Konqueror I just get the message Could not connect
to host localhost.

/etc/networks reads:
loopback 127.0.0.0
HOMENET 192.168.0.0

/etc/host.conf reads:
order hosts,bind
multi on

/etc/hosts reads:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
192.168.0.2 PC2.HOMENET PC2

/etc/hosts.allow
on PC2:- 192.168.0.2 PC1
on PC1:- 192.168.0.3 PC2

/etc/hosts.deny is blank

I just can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Do I need any specific data on
the router as far as lan operation is concerned?

Please help me keep what little hair I have left

regards
Paul Stear
