Again, this is why I have had better success adding ide0=0x1f0 ide0=ata100 to LILO. the first command loads the faster IDE driver, the second tells the system to use ATA 100. This approach makes the boot process faster as a side benefit. I also have good expeience with floppy=daring as mtools run faster as well.
