sorry, have forgot to translate ist. anyway, here it is in english : rpcinfo: cannot reach the portmapper: RPC: error on the remote system - connention refused > > > > But rpcd starts before nfsd - as I can see in ps ax > > > > any ideas ? your help is very welcome > > thanks for helping me > > hans schneidhofer > > Hell, are you joking? I might be able to assist you. BTW have you run rpcinfo -p > on the Red Hat machine or are you running this from a remote machine? > Will nfs work for all the machines, i.e. can your mount any drive to any > machine? Bottom line: we need more info from you, for example, what is > your problem? okay let`s go - have tried rpcinfo -p [host] on all 3 machines, as there are RH 7.1 as the server, and 2 more machines as the nfs-clients. on all machines is nfsd running. in the meantime I have tried one more situation : mdk 8.0 on host hanna was temporaraly the nfs-server, and RH 7.1 was a client. RH can get all the necessary information. it looks like this : rpcinfo -p hanna Program Vers Proto Port 100000 2 tcp 111 portmapper 100000 2 udp 111 portmapper 100024 1 udp 32768 status 100000 1 tcp 32768 status the same is on host baer, (the 2nd mdk 8.0 host) trying to mount the nfs-partition /net on host mozart(RH7.1) fails with the follwing answer : mount : RPC : cannot receive; errno = connection refused mount : mozart:/net continued in the backgrouned in the reverse way, RH 7.1 (mozart is now the client) the connection will be fine. For sure I was thinking of about to change RH for mandrake, but doing this, I have the next - very big - problem : have a harddisk of about more than 20 Gigs mounted on /net, but mdk 8.0 is becoming very very slow and after a few hours (about 20 hours or so) mdk crashes. unmounting the /net filesystem would be fine, but have then no NFS-exported netdrive. In RH 7.1, the system is very stable with this 20 Gigs, but have now the RPC-problem - isn`t it a lovely and happy linuxworld ? but think, we would get the rid. okay - what will we have just now : first step - portmapper is running on all machines (is the minor pid) 2nd step : nfs is running on all machines (is the bigger pid) can reach the 2 mdk-hosts (each other) can reach mdk-client from RH 7.1-host cannot reach RH-host from mdk-client thanks for helping me hans schneidhofer
