Sometimes it's hard to use the man pages if you don't know what you don't know. $man "fix my problem" has never worked for me :) I would start with Google before anything else. As an example, typing in "renaming files Linux command line" brings you to a nice page that lists a ton of UNIX commands and what they do. If you need more information after that, then go to the man pages. If you still need help, then by all means feel free to post to the lists. Generally, it's best to state where you've looked for help and what you've tried and what happened when you did. Then, people will know you've "RTFM" and will be in a better position to help you.
