Im sorry i dont know what WEP is, i literally have only used a wireless card as a drop in replacement for my standard one. There is some good info about VAIOs at the linux laptops page (forget the link but i think it was posted already) and linux is supposed to work beautifully on them (with a little tweaking). Perhaps they can help you more. I would say the PCMCIA worked better in 8.1 than in 8.2. I use cooker, and the problems seem to be fixed now, but i remember my card didnt work with the standard 8.2. Perhaps you should try using the pcmcia-cs package (and kernel) from cooker Tom
