Mine has slowed down since upgrading to Texstar's 686 rpms.  I had used his 
previous object-prelinking 2.2 rpms and my kde screamed.  But I installed 686 
night before last and things have really slowed down.  It takes like 5 
seconds for kmail and knode to open.   Using Eazel-like theme.       I think 
I'll have to revert.   You probably rolled your own?
