Here's something to try:

Using the hostname given to you by your cable modem provider, log in as
root, and manually issue the dhcpcd command:

[root@tippy root]# dhcpcd -h "HostName" eth0

See if that correctly brings up the interface.

If it does, it's a simple matter to change your
/etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0 to reflect that it's dhcp, and in the
/etc/sysconfig/network file put that in for your DHCP_HOSTNAME.
