I'm no expert on the GPL, but, as I understand it, it only becomes viral when you use source from another GPL'd program. It doesn't much matter if you compile it with gcc, cc or any other compiler. Libraries are a little different, and fall under the LGPL, and I'm not very familiar with that at all.
