Um...I don't know how to say this gently, but WD drives and linux often
don't get along very well. For the most part WD drives are "win-drives".
what that means is that they were designed in such a way that would allow
them to be made at lower costs for an OS that doesn't talk directly to the
hardware. Which is why windows uses DirectX. Linux, on the other hand
speaks directly to the hardware all the time. Therein lies the problem a
lot of the time between Linux and WesternDigital HDD's.

If you've got it running then count that as a bonus. if things get strange
then it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. Civileme can explain it
much better then I, but thats the general gist of the matter.

As for your drive(s) being totally ResierFS...is there any other way to
be? HELL no...Reiser all the way baby! I know I'll never run another FS on
my systems. And I've got Reiser on ALL my partitions with no trouble
what-so-ever. There was, for a time, some discussion about not making the
/boot partition Reiser, but it's been found by many that it doesn't
matter. Everything runs just fine. I've been running mine like that now
for the past nine months and I love it!

As for WD drives...Sadly, my workstation at work is a Quantex box and the
hardrive is a WD. It's a miserable SOB too! it doesn't do windows very
well and does Linux even worse. it really depends on just how strong the
sun spots are and how many planets are aligned as to whether or not I can
get Mandrake 7.1, 7.2, or RedHat 6.2, 7.0, and/or 7.1 to install on that
pain in the arse! I've all but given up trying to get Linux installed on
that machine. It's not long for my desktop these days. It's only 7 months
old and already my supervisor, God bless that dear man, has told me that
as soon as the next round of PC's are bought I'm to take one of the new
Dells for myself and we're going to put that miserable pile of chips in
the warehouse. And of course you know who configures and orders ALL the
PC's for the company. ;)

you can bet your sweet bippy I'm going to make sure I order one that is
going to be VERY Linux friendly - from stem to stern. And I don't mean
howard.

At the moment I have to use an older P1-133 with RedHat 6.2 on it to do
all my PERL programming on, and I REALLY miss my Mandrake box during the
day. There's just SO much more I can do on it then I can with Redhat. but
at least for now it's Linux.
