I did not try to load too much on this machine, since its supposed to be a firewall
machine, and had no problems with stuff not loading. Perhaps it is just the ext

So far that looks like the key. I did a fresh install, and had no problems.
As far as adding stuff later - I ended up wanting to run some stuff I'd not
installed, so downloaded a boatload of rpms (ImageMagick, ImageMagic-devel,
PerlMagic, and on and on it goes), and had no problem installing them
(other than missed dependencies ;-) (which I will have to admit I'm
still working on).
