Yes, you can use type1inst. It's downloadable at:

        http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/X11/xutils/type1inst-0.6.1.tar.gz

A default location for Type 1 fonts in Mandrake 7.2 is:

        /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/

All you really need to do is copy your Type 1 fonts into this directory, then
run type1inst against them. If type1inst has trouble extracting all the
information it needs (foundry is apparently problematic sometimes), you may
need to manually adjust your fonts.scale / fonts.dir file. The README for
type1inst describes how to do this.

Two other things to be sure of:

1. You'll need to have perl installed (which you probably do) since type1inst
is a perl script.

2. You should make sure that /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/ is entered in
the /etc/X11/fs/config catalogue. This tells X where to look for fonts when
it starts up.

Once all this stuff is done, you should (as root) give the command "service
xfs restart" which will restart the font server. You can then use xfontsel or
gfontsel to check that your new Type 1 fonts are available.

Hope this helps.
