I generally build kernels from tarballs using buildkernel. In any case, I have run into your "no job control" problem recently. I even corrected it but, unfortunately, I cannot tell you specifically what I did (I did a number of things). Essentially, I upgraded several other rpms after getting this message and after that, no problem. I built rpm and binutils and glibc upgrades from cooker from source rpms. I also upgraded a number of other rpms as well but I believe that those I mention above are most likely to apply to the problem. After these upgrades, the "no job control" message vanished (I was trying to compile the XFree86-4.0.1 src rpm and got the job control message). I guess that all I can say is start upgrading some of the important packages involved in building/compiling src/rpms. I prefer the tarball kernels because each time I've tried to build a kernel src rpm, it screws things up royally and I have to worm my way out of a problem. Never happens to me when I use tarballs in conjunction with buildkernel. Damn nice little app, that. praedor
