I have a friend who wants to use a Mandrake box with ipchains to act as a gateway. I told him this was pretty easy to set up, until he asked me how to require authentication against a W98 user name. This is where I got lost. I know that one could force the box to disallow packets from a specific computer, but how can you set up something similar to the windows challenge/response? I suppose one could hack up a bunch of stuff and use an internal Kerboros server, but that's a lot of work? I would really like to see this office not decide on an NT solution, but it's got to be done with W98 clients. Any ideas? Thanks, MB -- Michael R.
