Hi all,
I am hoping someone out there can help me with this project. I work for a
mechanical contractor and I am responsible for ordering stock lengths of
round ductwork. These stock lengths are 120". When I complete detailing a
project or area, I run a report and it gives me the raw lengths, quantities
and sizes of ductwork. I get a long list. In excel, I am able to filter and
sort, so all the same diameter pipes are grouped, then I can sort it per
the cut lengths from greater to less.

>From this point, I worked on a worksheet that I can copy and paste the
values into 3 columns. Size, quantity & Cut Length. (In that order,
starting at column A). I round UP to the nearest inch first, so I do not
have to worry about kerf or cut waste. I can calculate how much scrap each
length will produce exactly. The problem I am having is trying to think of
a way to have the next length in line search an array (Scrap bin) and
determine if that value can be used or not. Once it does find a value that
is greater or equal to, (but nearer to the value than any of the rest, heck
or the first available value will be OK), I want to be able to take that
value out of the scrap bin so it does not get used again. Plus, I don't
want the cut length to choose its own scrap lengths.

I will go ahead and post my spreadsheet here so you can get an idea of what
I am attempting. Don't mind some of the columns, I was trying different
approaches to calculations, so it might not be tied into the array. Can
anyone help? Or at least point me in the right direction of logic? I would
appreciate it.

Thanks,
Jeremy
