thanks for the reply. Apologies for being late as I didn't realise that
gmail had a category called "forums" and stuck your email in there.

Anyway despite thunderbird emails working and it accepts a password,
Evolution does not request a password no matter what i do. The same email
sending/receiving via Thunderbird work.
Evolution does not budge. No prompt for a password. Nothing.
Uninstalled/reinstalled. Nothing.
Also I tried googling for how to setup a password in the passwords and keys
app for Evolution. Could not find an answer there either.
I'm afraid I've given up. It should not be this hard.
I'm using Thunderbird from now on. Pity, Evolution looks great!
