Using these hints I ran the gsettings get commands for the 
/mail/browser-window/ location.
height=977
width=33766

then ran the reset command on those, which then returned
height = 0
width = 0

Then ran Evolution and double clicked an email, which closed the program.
Ran the gsettings get commands and got:
height=977
width=33766
