Tor - thank you for the help, that did it... after that I was able to launch 
the program, although it appears to keep a command-prompt window open?

Thanks again for the help... with regards to Evolution for Windows does anyone 
know if there are future plans for it?

I don't know what you exactly mean with "registered", but what you
could do is simply to copy one of those msvcr71.dll copes (the one
with a most recent version number) into Evolution's bin folder.
