No massive design needed, they had already planned for this and changed 
because the single motor system is more easily available.  Actually I never 
wanted the AWD version because the Aptera would make an excellent tow vehicle 
behind an RV and with just the front wheel drive a small lightweight foldable 
tow dolly might be the answer.
