Well, then, it's likely to be a misinterpertation of "makes." Likely, they were implying a technology like I suggested earlier - storing methane on board and generating hydrogen from that. It would be very interesting to find the original reference. I hope someone does.

Not a hoax. I very recently read the exact description of what Nick has written, and it 
seems it came directly from Toyota. I stumbled across this while researching the Mirai on 
Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Mirai . A quick quick scan of the 
Wikipedia page doesn't turn up a description matching of "makes it's own fuel", 
so perhaps I encountered that on some other page while doing the reading. It might have 
even been Toyota's own website, as I have also recently been researching currently 
available small pickups to replace my trusty, now defunct ICE Ranger.

In any case, I wanted to assure readers that Nick is not making this up, his 
description exactly matches what I saw myself (not that I believed it for a 
crypto-second).
