Also, forgot to mention: He's using a simple boost converter to match the PV to his pack, so without MPPT, especially given the fixed angle panel, he's leaving a lot of wattage on the table. (or the panel! =)
We found that MPPT is worth about 20% over a fixed boost on our van's flat mounted panels, it especially helps eke out every last watt in the early morning and late afternoon.
