I can't speak to Asia, but this seems to be one of the big EV differences
between the US and western Europe (Italy possibly excepted). In France and
UK at least, where I've read the largest number of EV forums, I've never
heard of any dealer trying to discourage an EV buyer.

Why their attitude would be different from US dealers', I don't know, but
from what I can see it's a sale and they'll gladly take it like any other.

Late in 2019, I helped with a Renault Zoe purchase in France. The dealer is
in a rural town of about 11,000 people, so we're not talking about the big
city. They had Zoes in stock - not hidden away, but on the lot right in
front of the showroom, next to the Clios and Kapturs also on offer.

We made it clear we were there for a Zoe, and got no pressure at all toward
anything else. It probably helped that Renault, and presumably the dealer,
makes about as much profit on the Zoe as on its ICEV cousin the Clio.

The salesman seemed to know the Zoe reasonably well, but apologized that he
didn't know all the differences between the 2019 and 2020 models because his
Renault training on the then-brand-new model was set for the following week.

Even with the language barrier, it was actually one of the less stressful
auto-shopping experiences I've been part of.

So I think that's another reason, besides serious efforts from governments,
that EV sales are growing more rapidly in Europe than here. The dealers
stock them and sell them the way they do any other vehicle.

What a pity that the traditional US auto dealers are so terrified of change.
