The sooner you abandon this idea, the sooner you'll get started on a
logical solution to your transportation needs that actually makes sense.
There are few, if any successful homebrew series hybrid conversions.
The idea of running a generator seems like it would make sense, but
there are conversion losses every time you change from one form of
energy to another. By the time the energy contained in the fuel
reaches the road, you'll have lost a ~lot~ more of it than if you
just drove a regular ICE vehicle of a similar size and weight.
I built a parallel hybrid with the idea that I'd be ahead of the game
because the energy would have fewer conversion steps, and in practice
it worked, but the combination consumed almost exactly what a
gasoline ICE model of my EV would use, and more than 25% more than
the diesel version of the same car would use over the same distance.
What it was useful for was transporting my EV to distant car shows,
drag events, Earth Day events, energy fairs, etc. While other EV
owners would arrive at the venue driving a truck and trailer loaded
with their EV, I got there wheels-on-the-ground at a considerable
savings in fuel. It was also always an adventure (if you like that
kind of thing).
Put any suggestion of using LPG as a motor fuel firmly behind you if
you are wise. Propane has an even lower energy density than gasoline,
which means you need a more powerful engine to make up for the loss
in horsepower. Also remember that you can't carry a plastic gas can
of LPG with you or transport one from a fuel station after running
out on the road, so there's no convenience there, either.
Back in the day, before it was called "renewable energy", before it
was "alternative power", it was called "appropriate technology". What
you are proposing isn't an appropriate use of the technology you
describe. Even my pusher is out under the shade tree rusting away
under some tarps. It was *barely* appropriate for the task I built it for.
