I guess you would have to calculate amp hours to cranking power if you went 
lithium. However I suspect the little lithium motorcycle batteries would be 
best suited as they could survive the constant 14.4 to 13. 8v DC to DC charge. 
I guess I should check by testing or ask what the charging cycle of the Leaf 
12v system is...since it is a lead battery I'm guessing it is identical to an 
ICE system. I have some Genesis batteries that are 13 ah. two might fit in 
there. Maybe 3 for about 40ah or the same as the Valence medical battery which 
you can get for 100 dollars if you look around. I used two in my eGo. However 
they only put out about 40 amps continuous. Seemingly that should be plenty. 
However if I knew the parasitic drain in ah you could calculate the need for 
months of disuse. That said most people that park a car are smart enough to use 
a 12v tender to save the battery. Really I was just a little annoyed I had to 
spend $185 plus tax for a replacement at the auto parts store.    You can get 
those 12v solar tenders to put in your dash.  Lawrence Rhodes
