If the Leaf has side marker lights on the fenders, just ahead of the doors, then it is a 2011 or 2012 model. Those charge at 3kW (L2). If there are no marker lights on the fenders, it is a 2013+ model, which charges at 6kW (L2). By this time the 2011 and 2012 models, if they still have the original battery, have often degraded capacity which reduces the range. What also reduces is the ability to fast-charge. The deterioration leads to higher battery (internal) resistance so that the CHAdeMO charger cannot push the maximum current into the pack without the BMS yelling and throttling the charging current to keep the highest cell(s) from going over the max charging voltage. This throttling can happen when the battery is still less than half full, so the typical expected 80% charge from a fast charger can take a whole lot longer than you would expect. I typically charge exclusively from L2 these days, though I do see good opportunities for L3 (DC fast charging) on the horizon. Cor.

From little I glean from the promo trailer it seems a nyc urbanite couple are now living in a decrepit, falling-apart house and having to learning how to live in the country (= the mess). Even in an ice, the trip would be 1500+mi (assume on I-80, see map) https://goo.gl/maps/ktZ72sLvR3B2 Even at 55mph, the range would have been greatly reduced/horrible, but a leaf EV towing a uhaul trailer is not an unknown https://www.google.com/search?q=Gen+1+Leaf+SL+tow+trailer Let's assume theirs was the smaller, lighter uhaul trailer 4x8 https://www.google.com/search?q=weight+UHaul+trailer [dated] How much does a 4x8 uhaul trailer weigh? If you are looking specifically at the U-Haul 4 x 8 enclosed trailer, their web site says it weighs 850 pounds. Another Google search show that nobody really knows what the towing capacity of a Beetle is, but it seems to be around 1,000 pounds. That means that all your stuff has to weigh less than 150 pounds. Oct 25, 2013 http://www.city-data.com/forum/general-moving-issues/1979388-pulling-uhaul-trailer-first-time-3.html Since, I am more interested in the charging needed along the way, https://www.google.com/search?q=2012+leaf+sl+charging a 2012 leaf sl has L3-CHAdeMO & L2-6kW charging (24kWh pack, 4hours @220VAC= 6kW charger onboard) The sitcom likely won't dwell on how painful that trip would have been using several L2 recharges in between each L3 recharge, over several days ( ... I've done many a trip like that, been-there, done-that ... I don't think those characters would have enjoyed the trip as much I have each time) Lets hope the good looking older Leaf is only used as a prop, and not used to whine about being stuck in a EV. -sidebar- Btw, the Earthday EVent I attended/helped at last Saturday http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/EVnews-status-nerds-treehuggers-technologists-EVs-Earthday-EVents-tp4693283.html had a used Leaf gen1 that looked very much like the one in the sitcom. I was really glad the coordinator had arranged to have a Volt pih, Leaf EV & Tesla-3 EV on display for me to explain EVs to the public. it was a small EVent, with a 3" storm down pour with ice-cube size hail for 20minutes, but I got to work with the EV interested public from 10a to 3+pm (running just on adrenaline). I got home, hoarse, sun burnt, and exhausted. But still ringing in my ears were the public thanking me for being there to give them the answers they sought, and being so dedicated to the EV-cause (since 1990). / For EVLN EV-newswire posts use: http://evdl.org/archive/ {brucedp.neocities.org} -- Sent from: http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/ _______________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE: http://www.evdl.org/help/index.html#usub http://lists.evdl.org/listinfo.cgi/ev-evdl.org Please discuss EV drag racing at NEDRA (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NEDRA) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
