DAMIEN FISHER/UNION LEADER CORRESPONDENT ] RINDGE — John Weir and his wife, Mary, were watching television Wednesday night when they heard something unusual outside their Perry Road home. “We heard a strange noise, and of course, then there was the explosion,” Weir said. He, his wife, who is a registered nurse, his sister Kathy Weir and several neighbors ran outside to see a Tesla Model X split in half and on fire, with a teen girl still trapped inside one half of the vehicle. They pulled her through the car window. “Police say we gave her a second chance, getting her out of the car,” John Weir said. State police say speed was a likely factor in the crash that sent three teenagers to the hospital, one with life-threatening injuries. Nina Colasanto, 19, of New Ipswich, was transported to UMass Worcester Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The driver, Travis Olson, 17, of Rindge, and another passenger, Chelsea Holombo, 17, of New Ipswich, were taken to Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough, according to police. Their injuries are not thought to be as serious as Colasanto’s. The accident happened around 8 p.m. when Olson’s 2017 Tesla Model X, headed eastbound, left the road, hit a tree, split in two, and burst into flames. The all-electric Tesla Model X is a sports car capable of going from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds. Its sticker price starts at $85,000.
