I gave my own case as well - had I stumbled or stepped to the left slightly
- I had no indication of trouble from the rear and potentially 4 bikes and
myself would have been in a pile.

The law pretty much follows this rubric: The faster traffic is responsible
for the well being of the slower. Regardless of their handicappedness or
ineptitude.

So will you be remorseless of you run over a small dog or topple someone
that is not youg fracturing a hip? A broken hip is almost a death
sentence. All because you were unwilling to slow and give wide berth? If
that leaves you remorseless I am truly sad for you.

You should also consider the uninsured nature of greenway cycling. Can you
afford the cost you should bear if you do hurt someone?

Mixed use is simply not fair or workable when people don't automatically
try to be kind, patient, and willingly overlook the inconsideration of the
other parties (which is often a perception not warranted when simple
momentary inattention is there real root cause). Who is perfect?

I really think EVs, e-scooters, e-bikes and e-velos, should not use most
mixed use paths, or even bike lanes. They are generally too big, and too
fast. Further I think not mixing bicycles and pedestrians it a good idea
if the density of traffic is very high.

On the velo or a bike I self-police myself. Mid-weekday and early morning
cycling on the paths but never weekend days. I slow down a lot if there is
any randomness in the traffic ahead and move far away even into the verge.
I never want to be responsible for hurting anyone. I would rather be hurt
myself, hence my willingness to leave the greenways behind if I am in a
hurry.
