The technology they’re working with might be different than that used by speed seekers before them, but the proving grounds remain the same. Competition improves the breed, and that’s the path Clark, Nozaki-Miller and Flagg have embarked on, pioneering the next chapter in hot-rodding – the electric motorcycle. Their challenge: the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. ] Harlan Flagg, Brandon Nozaki-Miller and Jeff Clark are leading the way forward in electric hot rods for the 21st century.Their focus is on electric motorcycles, particularly those manufactured by Zero Motorcycles. Unlike hot rodders of the past who got greasy finger nails and busted knuckles tearing down gasoline engines to make them more powerful, Flagg, Miller and Clark have done things like invent liquid cooling for their electric motors, increase the capacity of the motor controller and adapt the suspension systems on their bikes to make them more suited to race tracks. Some of their ideas have actually filtered back to the factory. Their improved motor controller became the heart of the Zero SR motorcycle. They also have challenged Pikes Peak. At first, there was no class for production electric bikes, so they worked with the organizers to create one.
