I agree with you. The current infrastructure will be outdated within 10
years. Maybe sooner. Perhaps Tesla will be setting the future
standard. Who knows, they opened up their patent licensing. Maybe
they'll franchise their charging network at some point.

I monitor some TSLA investment sites. There are quite a few
Tesla-bashing trolls that cited the above as evidence that Tesla's end
was near. Of course the Tesla supports made the following points:
1) for an EV with less than 100 miles of range, the "fast" charging
sites will have to be spaced every 50 miles
2) every 50 miles traveled will require a stop of 1/4-1/2 hour
3) there are three completing/conflicting "fast" charging standards.
Your non-Tesla will likely be able to use one of two. A Tesla will
likely be able to use any of the 3.
4) the proposed sites will likely be all pay sites. Stop in and see if
you have the correct credentials before you can start charging. And
that your credentials actually work. And that the charger actually
works. With a Tesla, you have pre-paid for a lifetime worth of fast
charging; no credentials.
5) the cost of a charge is likely to be about the cost of fuel at a
gasoline station.
All this boils down to: this is absolutely no threat to Tesla. You
drive a Tesla for 2-4 hours and pull in for a 1/2-1 hour charge. No
credentials required and the charger is almost sure to work. VW and BMW
have made a huge mistake by not adopting the Tesla fast charging
standard.
