Harley-Davidson deserves a great deal of kudos for the way they're approaching
this. They're certainly doing a good job with the hype...I just wish they
weren't drawing it out quite so much. Still, that may well be priming the pump
properly for the kind of high volume sales they appear to be hoping for.

In short, they're selling it not as some sort of lame eco-cripple, but instead
as a regular hog that you just happen to plug in -- and, presumably, one that
has a bit more acceleration than a comparable bike in exchange for a bit less
range per "fill-up."

Again, I wish American auto manufacturers would take the same approach to their
vehicles. Yes, the environmental friendliness is important, but it's not what
buyers are going to care about. But if Ford made an electric Mustang with
best-in-class 0-60 times or an F-150 with even more torque than a competitor's
diesel hemi, people aren't going to care so much about either it only having an
hundred miles of range or costing a modest premium.

Tesla gets it. Harley gets it. BMW perhaps gets it. Not sure why so many others
are so slow in figuring it out.
