I am afraid I tend to disagree on Thunderbird and centrally installed
extensions. From the release notes from Thunderbird 78.0
(https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/78.0/releasenotes/) :
"changed **As of version 78.0, "sideloaded" extensions are no longer
supported. Enterprise administrators can deploy extensions using policies."
I should expect the developers of Thunderbird to know ...

As far as my experience goes: Firefox does not support centrally installed
extensions, Firefox ESR does support centrally installed extensions,
Thunderbird does not support centrally installed extensions.
I don't speak about FF 'rolling release', but at least for FF ESR AND
Thunderbird centrally installed extensions DOES works, fully for FF,
with some glitches from TB.
