One thing that recently come to my mind was the possibly for the foundation to accept Bitcion donations [1] [2]. I know that there have been some issues around Bitcoin including legal questions but if I understand things correctly the situation have improved. Actually the reason I write is mail is because I yesterday read that Wikimedia foundation have started accepted Bitcoin donations[3], the improved legal status[4] of Bitcion was cited as one reason for this decision (also FSF have accepted Bitcion donation for several years [5]). I understand that us start accepting Bitcoin would require someone with US legal expertise to investigate the matter from a GNOME foundation perspective. That said, I think it makes sense for us to accept Bitcion donations if we can address the legal and the administrative issues. Are curious about other people's opinions about this. 1 https://bitcoin.org/en/ 2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcion 3 http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Virtual-Currency-Guidance 4 https://blog.wikimedia.org/2014/07/30/wikimedia-foundation-now-accepts-bitcoin/ 5 https://www.fsf.org/blogs/community/bitcoins-a-new-way-to-donate-to-the-fsf -- -mvh Oliver Propst _______________________________________________ engagement-list mailing list engagement-list@gnome.org https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/engagement-list
