Greetings all; I just replaced the nozzle with a fresh .4mm version. Without any instructions, that was a pita because I had to burn my fingers with the heat to get the nozzle to loosen. Cold it wouldn't budge.
Andy said I should check by heating it up, in this case loosening the grippers and pulling the string way out so that there was 100mm of empty feed tube in front of it. Mark the string and feed 100mm and see if it feeds 100mm. Then I stuck an address return label on the string 140mm out from the entrance port, went to the prepare->move axis and raised z 100mm just to get it away from the hot stuff. Then dialed up +100 on the extruder. It went, quite slowly, about 43.7mm. Dialed it back to zero, it went back to 140mm at the address label. That certainly goes a long way to explaining my see thru it results! But its taken me well over an hour to crank it from 95steps/mm for a 44mm feed when dialing 100, to 245step/mm to get about 100mm for 100mm on the dial. During which time my cheap caliper decided it couldn't hold a zero in mm mode, so I had to use the printed scale on it, paper and stick. Thats about an hours turning on the knob since its only .01 per click. Not to mention that all that screwing around at working temp burned the new nozzle shut and I had to put a serious push on the string just to get it started. And because cura was set to 110%, its slobbering a wee bit but I'm going to let it run just for S&G's. Let it clean the nozzle when cura turns it back down to 210C & 65C at the end of layer 2. At 225 and 75, adhesion is way too damned good. But those were my temps, trying to get adhesion with no string feed. How the hell did they ship it that screwed up? Boggles what mind I have left... Also gave me a couple stabs of heart pain. Getting that checked later today since its after the witching hour now. Who knows, maybe I'll make this work yet...
