The 7i96 would work well, but it does not have a significant amount of IO
pins, or analog outputs for spindle control.

If you intend to control the spindle via LinuxCNC and plan on adding more
peripheral devices, the 7i76e might be a better choice. Expansion boards to
add more IO and spindle control are available to connect the the 7i96, as
well.
