It might be stuck on 0.00000. I don't know why, unless you used gedit to do something to it recently, but this could be in indication of a contaminated .hal file.
Using gedit at my place turned out to be playing with a very bad deck of cards. So I've been using geany now for years, and I sleep a lot better. Haven't scrambled a file since.
