I'm not impressed with Gecko 320X's, they seem to suffer from the same problem as the old 210 stepper drives had - a propensity to loose steps on changes of direction. They are finicky with pulse length and dir timing. One thing many seem to get caught out with is running opto buffered breakout boards into them - they don't like it. Opto into opto (internal in Geckos) is a disaster waiting to happen :) That apart Gecko seem to have stagnated somewhat, the newer Leadshine stepper drives are far better IMO. The diagnostics/setup connection makes finding a problem easy, but to be honest, they are not all fussy and seem to just work with minimal setup. I sold on a Gecko G540 after trying it - not impressed. Leadshine closed loop stepper drives are extremely good. The first time I saw them was on a big gantry machine and I though it had servos. Performance was very good with impressive accuracy and power. They are selling well as replacements for dead servo systems and on new build as the price is considerably lower for not much worse overall performance. They are well worth considering for anybody doing a conversion or new build.
