given the choice i take the mill to it can do most anything a lathe can until about 4 in long and can do far more with larger diameters. that said if a guy has a small cnc lathe it sure does eliminate a whole bunch of extra tooling for a manual lathe. The real question is that of production and threading the cnc wins hands down for anything over 3 or four pieces and just blows a manual awy if threading. also the cnc will do far better on very small parts . really i think a good small shop would have 3 lathes and 2 mills, a cnc of each, a manual of each and a second operation lathe. well theres my .002 -- jeremy youngs
