They are far stiffer than the machine. In addition I made a block with a 5C taper that mounts square with the spindle. It is used for drilling and boring. I have a couple of nice boring bars picked up at Boeing surplus which need the 1" collet. Of course, what works for me may not work for anyone else. IOW ...
