For what purpose?  If you want to build and test software, yes you can 
do this.  If you want to
run EMC2, then generally, no, you lose all real-time accuracy with 
virtual machines.

I run VMware under Linux, and run some old CAD applications under 
Windows 2000 via
VMware.  This runs great, and Win2K runs for months without reboots, so 
it works FAR more reliably
under VMware.  But, the OP wanted to run multiple machines, I don't know 
what kind of synchronization
was needed between them.  Yes, in principle, VMware and multiple Linux 
virtual machines would get
around the sharing problems of multiple EMC2 instances.  But, it would 
introduce a HUGE other problem,
in that there would be no guaranteed timing of the EMC systems.

I am also not too clear on whether VMware supports RT kernels, but would 
actually be surprised if
they do.  Since VMware doesn't guarantee timing of the guest OS's, it 
would seem to be senseless
to support them.
