Having worked in Sales before, I can say with confidence that this is 
very good advice.

In fact, you might want to ask for an "Applications Engineer" to visit 
along with the salesman just so you can be fairly certain
that the people doing the demo actually know what they are doing.

The AE is typically the guy that the salesmen calls when the customer 
has a problem.

A large percentage of the salesmen out there have no idea how to 
actually use what they sell.   They are often usually too busy selling
to learn about the products they are trying to sell.

Ironic but true.
