I was suggesting probing with no probe as a possible way to log the
points. It might require a bit of HAL-trickery to make a dummy probe
signal that triggers correctly  if a change of signal state is needed
to log the point to the file.

Just note that there is no need for an actual physical signal to exist
for the probe cycle to complete. If there is a halui pin which goes
high during probing, for example, then it is fairly easy to
edge-detect and time-delay that signal into a dummy probe input
signal. Otherwise a signal that goes high a fraction of a second after
the Z-axis velocity changes from zero would work.
